A little bit of both, actually. The rogue AIs from beyond the Blackwall are known for destroying any organic entity they come into contact with; so, we humans were on the menu for extinction.
One thing that kind of bugs me about this place is LILITH itself. That thing shares the same name as another entity allegedly hailing from beyond the Blackwall but I am not in the mood to talk about crazy conspiracy theories.
